Those effects are created by having a mouseover graphic that is almost
identical to the first.  Usually done with Javascript.  You manipulate the
appearance of the button with a program like Photoshop or Illustrator to
modify the look you want to achieve for the mouseover.

All I did was change the color of the type. I don't know Javascript but did
this with Dreamweaver.  There are actually two different buttons used to
create the effect.  But it is transparent to the user since the Javascript
loads all the images when the page loads so that there is no delay in
getting the second image when you mouseover.

You can create whatever effect you want with a little creativity and skill
in Photoshop.  You can make the buttons grow or fade or light up or
whatever.  Good luck.

Try changing the font weight and/or size.
