I have a client that wants to send me .wav files but they are huge compared
to other MP3 files I have for the same band. Is this because they have not
yet been compressed or is it the nature of .wav? Also, what is the quality
comparison?
thanks

The answer lies in why you want to put it there:

If you want to post it to be downloaded, go with mp3.

If you want truncated samples to be played inline in the browser, you can
use wav, but please don't make it start automatically when the page is
loaded.

If you want streaming audio that can't be downloaded (and don't demand the
highest sound quality) you can use RealAudio.

If you are trying to reach an audience that has never heard the band before,
I would recommend posting a couple of complete songs in mp3 format. It will
give them a chance to hear the songs with a good enough quality to judge if
they like the band or not.

I've tried some of the samples on CDNow, and they are never of a good enough
quality that I would buy something from a band I didn't know just from
listening to them.

A local band have asked me to build a web site for them. They would like
some samples of their music on the site.

I've never done this before so would appreciate any advice on the best way
to approach this. E.g.. put a .wav file or a mp3 file? What would I need to
do to create these sorts of files etc.
