Recognized Fonts for CSS

Hi,

I'm in the process of _starting_ to learn CSS, and have a question.  My page
uses the Times New Roman font, and I'm working on just a section of it for
the CSS "learning" project.  When I try to validate the small portion, I get
the following message:

Line : 19 font-family: You are encouraged to offer a generic family as a
last alternative

Is there a list somewhere of what all the _generic_ fonts are?  I've been
checking some of the CSS web sites (including HWG), but can't find a list of
what is considered generic.
