exhibited by that particular "celebrity," so I guess it's to be expected.

This sounds like the webmaster was the snob and managed to convince the
manager or boss that this was the only way to go.

I am absolutely convinced that for every practical web developer out there,
there are dozens of crackpot webmasters that haven't a clue.

I got a call by a desparate website owner who's webmaster had dissapeared on
him. His hosting company shut him down for using too much bandwidth and
told him to move it to his own server.

I took a quick look at his site even though I am not really interested, I
am too busy now. He needed the site moved NOW and I though hey, it would
take a few minutes or an hour and I could help the guy out. Wrong!

It had been built with some monster CGI database program. He only had 300
products but the website was occupying over 1 gig - most of it in pictures.

Here's what the old webmaster had done: He was great with Flash and
obviously Photoshop as the design parts of the site were outstanding....
until you dug deeper. The opening flash sequence was almost 300K. That's
fine for a cable modem, but way too much time to DL for most potential
customers.

The guy must not of known how to use CGI because he used some off the shelf
CGI database builder program. He didn't control image size so this cookie
cutter approach created tables where there were lots of words squeezed in
beside the large pictures. You could tell he didn't care about it because
some categories were a mile long and other categories were empty.

Some pop up enlargements were the same blurry image with bigger height &
width settings so it was really blurry. I don't know the origin of the
images but some were good and some way below standard. There were dozens of
other problems too many to mention. Definatly a candidate for
www.websitesthatsuck.com

Anyway - you get the idea. There are a lot of crackpots that should have
there mouse broken and taken away from them. If you want to see the site in
question, its http://www.ffmall.com Caution, it's a lingerie site, it's
not gross, but it does depict women in their skivvies. Sometimes the site
is up, sometimes it's down. I guess he's still looking for a webmaster.
