changing 404 error message

Got this question from a customer today and I don't know the answer to her
question.  Can anyone help?

i have an html question... because i've been roboted so much, there are
pages on search engines that are totally outdated, i.e; sold goods that
i've yanked and replaced. how do i change the 404 generic message that
the person gets to one that is a little more enokiworld friendly and at
least gives them a link back into the site. the dincgirls do it. if you
want to see it, just type in www.girlswhowearglasses.com/enokiworld or
whatever. i don't know where to get the code since i am not actually
coming from an internal page of theirs.

think you can clue me in, if'n ya don't mind??
