css-font size

I am trying to declare my standard font-size for my page using style sheets.
for some reason no matter what I put for font-size it uses the standard size
3, 12pt size.

BODY {
    background-image : url("P-Ymixedge.jpg");
    font-family : Arial;
    font-size : 10pt;
}

Can anyone tell me why this isn't working?
