It sounds like Network Solutions changed the rules.  All K-12 and community
colleges are supposed to use something under the .US TLD.  At least, that's
how I read it.

Under ICANN rules, the .edu TLD is restricted to four-year colleges and
universities.

"School projects" don't fit the requirements.
