Hi Sherill:

You assumed correctly - NOTEPAD is adequate for most easy chores.

Granted, NOTEPAD is a weak HTML editor, but, don't listen to these postings
that tell you it totally STINKS at coding chores because it doesn't.

We have the heavyweight software used in our work, but also find NOTEPAD and
WORDPAD very convenient when a line of code needs to be popped into a page,
or a file needs editing in short, or (as indicated by others) CONFIG or EXE
files need editing.

I think it is a wonderful little program that when used within its
limitations is highly effective.

When I first started coding pages years back I taught myself HTML by copying
source and studying it via NOTEPAD and WORDPAD (for large files). I would
work intensely on using the copied source to learn the "how-to" of HTML and
I fully hand-coded my first websites using these little editors. Browsers
don't know the difference between coding with NOTEPAD or the big dog editors
and the pages load the same in the end.

Many are the web designers that depend so much upon the latest technology in
editing and coding that they couldn't hand-code a page to save their life.
It'll get worse when voice recognition becomes so easily available and
effective that coding can be voice-driven. Talk about "dumbing-down" the
process.

Technology is quickly becoming so advanced that it won't be long until
"hand-coding" will go the way of "LP" records (you know, those large, round,
vinyl thingies that cavemen played for songs).

I still enjoy being able to pull up NOTEPAD and WORDPAD and keep my
hand-coding skills alert. I thnk they both are nice little programs and have
their place among the "big dogs".
