Hi, folks.

I'm currently on a 33k6 modem, but, when BT (British Telecom) gets its'
collective ass in gear, will, most likely, move over to ADSL, which is their
implemantation of the technology.

The main difference that you'll find is, as previously stated, the change in
speed of both up- and down- load times - they'll increase multi-fold. A page
that might take, say, ten seconds to load over a 33k6 connection, will be
there in a fraction of that time over an xDSL connection; the only delays
really being in (a) server lag, and (b) net congestion.

Notwithstanding the financial cost of installing an xDSL connection, there
is, however, a security price to pay for this speed. As an 'always on'
conection, your machine (PC, Mac, whatever) will always be 'visible' to the
wider world; as such, you MUST invest in either a hardware of software
firewall solution.

I personally use ZoneAlarm, one, because it's free, and two, as it patently
works. You can download it from www.zonelabs.com.

There are, of course, other solutions available, but this was the most user
freindly verses comprehensive one that I could identify.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
