When it comes to a hosting company there are several things that are
important to look for:

Reliability - at least 99.8 percent, if you're not on-line, your site is
losing business
Performance - Do their hosted websites "pop" when you click on a link
Affordability - I have found you can pay a lot of money for poor service
Communication - if you can't get a hold of them, how can you fix or
reconfigure?
Services - email forwarding, cgi-bin, PHP, ASP, affordable shopping cart
etc.
Redundancy - do they have UPS's and backup generators,
                        - do they use more than carrier to reach the net

I have looked at hundreds of hosting companies and nobody has fullfilled my
entire wishlist.

Here are the ones I prefer and why. I won't quote prices because I don't
want to rile up the list monitor folks since quoting pricing is a no-no.

http://terrasite.com is very reasonably priced - This is an NT/IIS service.
They support ASP. They are in Vienna Virginia very near the backbone, they
feature a live service rep you can chat with. I have used this and it works
great. They have SSL, Frontpage support, statistics, CGI-BIN, ODBC/DSN,
control panel and more.

http://oneworldhosting.com/ is reasonably priced and is in Baltimore
Maryland "on the backbone". Free SSL, email support is usually fast. I
called them once just to see if I needed support - would they be there for
me? They answered quick. They offer Telnet/SSH, FrontPage extensions,
CGI-BIN, control panel, Hit Stats, Anywhere Web Mail, Mysql, and great
customer support. Free domain name when you pay annually.

http://websitefactory.net/ started out great, but they have slowed down a
little in the email support arena, still a good company if you call them.
Reasonably priced, 3,000 MB/mo. data transfer, 30 MB disk space, Email
services, CGI Capabilities, Frontpage, statistics, control panel.
