Yikes!  I guess I was wrong big time!  Sorry Peter and to all on the list.
I don't use AOL, but have clients that do. I contacted AOL almost a year ago
about the exact same scenario and the rep. I talked to told me that
accessing other POP accounts couldn't be done.  I don't know if he
misunderstood me, or I didn't make myself clear or what.  He never mentioned
that I could use another Email client (maybe he didn't know) and I never
even considered it.  Again, I sincerely apologize for the mis-information.
God knows there is enough of it around without me adding to it.  I think
from now on I'll stick to things I have first hand experience with.

I like using Outlook Express because I can check all my POP accounts with a
click of the button and, as Hugh eluded to, easily reply using the same POP
account that the message originally came in on.  Unfortunately, AOL users
will still have to check their AOL accounts with AOL's mail program.
