How to begin design, thats a tough one. The only thing I or anyone else
could do is say how we work.

I start by working out what type of Site it's going to be, commerce
information etc. Generally find out the requirements for the project, this
way you know what the client wants and they have some idea about what
they'll get. During this time it's also best to get a general colour scheme
idea for the entire site. Make sure to write the requirements down.

Next make up some sketches of various pages (Pen and Paper time) label each
section and try to explain what it will do. Send this off to the client for
approval and input. Be sure to make a map of how the site will link
together, trying to link pages at the end of the process takes too long. Be
sure to pay lots of attention to navigation, especially how the end-user
will use the site and whether it's obvious about where they will be heading.

Finally get down and dirty with coding and validating. All the time try to
make sure that the pages look like the sketches. Send off a couple of pages
once complete so that the client can poke about with it.

By the time the project is finished the good thing is the client will have a
good enough idea has to what they should be recieving and be happier with
the finished project.
