Password Protected Sites

Hello All,

I have 2 questions, first, can anyone tell me where to find a tutorial on
how to setup password files for a password protected sites.

Second, Can someone either tell me or direct me to a tutorial on how to use
banner ads, what I am interested in finding out is a lot of companies setup
banner ads and they pay either by the number of click thrus or pay according
to what the person buys, I am interested on finding out how the company
tracks where the visitor came from and if they buy something when the come
from that site.
