Add Text Entries to Shopping Cart

Question:
Have you ever seen or think it is possible to create a text entry "store".
Text Boxes for information to be added, user clicks the "add" button and the
text information gets added to a cart. I am thinking this is possible,
simply because when you order items in an online store, it is a text box
that you put your "quantity" in.  And the quantity gets added to the cart.
So why not be able to type your own items in text boxes and have them added?
Anyone seen anything like this?
