font Question

Hi everyone. I am new to web design and have just started developing my own
site. I hope to get more experience and knowledge to try for a job in web
design. I have a question.

Why is it that basefont size won't apply to text in my tables? I can get the
font face to work but not the size. Is there some reason behind this?
