"Sub-standard" seem awfully harsh. It is true that SSI doesn't allow for as
much flexibility as languages like PHP or ASP, but they are quite adequate
for the purposes they serve.

PHP includes are as easy to use as SSI and the PHP language allows for more
functionality, so perhaps he was thinking along those lines.

<?php require_once "menu.php" ?>

(sorry if you receive this twice, I just noticed that I sent the first one
out as HTML)

Hi everyone ~
I have just started working with a new host company for one of my accounts
and when I asked him if his server was SSI enabled, he told me that using
Server Side Includes is a substandard method. What are everyone's thoughts
about this? Is it true, and why and what method is preferable these days?
I have been using Server Side Includes for sidebars, headers, footers, and
other page elements for all of my larger websites for years and I love them
because they allow me to make sitewide changes quickly. Feedback?
TIA!
~ Blue
