OK. My 2 cents worth

<OPINION>

Popups and popunders are a pain. Further, popunders are IMHO worse than
Popups, because Popups can be closed as soon as they open (and I do that
99.99% of the time, unless I was expecting it) Imagine visiting 100 sites,
10 of which generate a popunder.

You keep working in your original browser window. At the end of your
session (which could be many hours) you close down the browser and find all
these other browser windows. Are you going to read them? I usually log out
when I go to bed, or am going out. I haven't got time to read all those
messages I did not ask for and at best note which sites generated them, so I
know not to go there again unless I really have to.

My point is this: people aren't going to see them until they either close
their main window or, out of curiosity, wondering what's wrong with their
browser, they click on the task bar to see what this other window is. As
soon as they notice it is not something they asked for, they will close it,
most of the time.

There are other ways to "trap" a visitor leaving the site and generate a
popup at that time. But the above still applies. They are still annoying -
I don't like being trapped. On a windows based server for instance, you
might be able to detect whether a session has ended (people leaving the
site) and bring up the popup window. I haven't tried that, it's just a
thought, if you really want to do this.
