Hi all

As stated by others, Javascript is not a real security threat. However,
some people perceive it to be such and many people turn it off because of
the way some sites (ab)use it for advertising purposes. Therefore, when
building a site, one should bear in mind that the javascript will not work
for everyone, regardless of the reasons for JS not working for them. The
same goes for CSS, absolute positioning and screen sizes.

Statistics can lie, but see
http://www.thecounter.com/stats/2001/November/index.php for an example. It
seems 13% of visitors to sites that have a "TheCounter.com" tracker on their
site don't have javascript.

Want to write sites that only work for people using Internet Explorer 5+
and Netscape 6 on a Windows 95/98/NT/2000 machine, with a maximized window
at a resolution of 1024x768, with javascript and cookies enabled? Go for
it. Just accept that a lot of people (the vast majority in this case) will
struggle to use the site and leave. Oh. And don't worry about optimizing
graphics if you're not concerned with modem users. If only 1 in a 100
visitors can use the site, is that good enough?

My 2 cents worth
