You can freelance for reasonable pay to learn. Volunteering services for
non-profit organizations also helps.

The Internet isn't about certifications, or any other paperwork. Its about
begin able to walk the talk, and being able to prove it. If you are any
good, and you can show people what you can do, then you will find work.

Think about web development holistically, if you want advice: its not
graphic design, or HTML coding, or CGI coding, or Systems Administration, or
content development, or any other one thing. It all of them. If you take a
single-minded viewpoint, you will end up being a good programmer, or a good
graphic artist, or a good html coder...you need to consider them all to
really understand what's involved.

JMHO...YMMV

I am 22 years old and have been looking into becoming a web designer
but I am having a hard time deciding what kind of training to go about.
I live right next to the Silicon Valley in California and I have many
opportunities for jobs and training. I could go to a trade/vocational
school, but that won't guarantee me a job and it is highly priced. The
internet looks like a good deal as it is very reasonable in price and
you can become certified after taking the courses. I found a site
called handtech.com who offers many courses for a very reasonable price,
are they good? How easy is it to land a job with just MCSE
Certification? I am good with computers, a fast learner, and I possess
an excellent creative skill as I make money selling my photography. I
am just hoping that someone will help me out and let me know how hard it
is to get a job after internet training with no past experience as this
looks like the road I am looking down. Thanks for any input you might
have. :)
