I haven't read it yet but recently received a copy of
a book titled <designing web graphics.3> by Lynda
Weinman.  She has her own web sites, too
http://www.lynda.com and
http://www.digitalartscenter.com .  The book seems to
be comprehensive from a graphics standpoint from image
formats, creating smaller file sizes, using color,
working with type and stylesheets and more.
