Hi John,As the owner of web servers, the following is
what I see most used by my clients:
1. Separate Domain names with a separate account for
each one, necessitating an index.html file for each
account.
2. Virtual Domains off the primary name ie; if the
primary were www.johngamble.com a virtualdomain
might be http://resume.johngamble.com or
http://mybusiness.johngamble.com- this also requires
an index.html file
3. Another way is creating a normal page with any file
name but the page design and layout appears as the
first page of a web site and would be named
www.johngamble.com/resume.html or
www.johngamble.com/my business.html - this does not
require an index.html file as it is really part of the
same web site, it only appears to be a separate site
to the viewer.
Now if you are using a free site provided by your isp
they would have to set the virtual domains for you as
would a pvt server. If you are using one of the FREE
sites you can simply open a new account for each web
site you want. Each would require the first page to be
titled index.html.
Hope this helps a little..

understand that the practice is to name
one'sfirst/home page "./", and that this file
must be in the rootdirectory. However, if one wishes
to design several small websites, oneclearly cannot
name all the individual home pages "./". How
doesone get around this? Does using "indexA.html",
indexB.html" etc work? Or"index1.html" and
"index2.html" etc? Nowhere can I find any
writtenguidance on this point. [So far, of course, I
have not uploaded any draftpages to actual web sites].
I would be grateful for practical guidance. Thanks
