Hi! I'm Ron Jeffries, consultant, software developer and part-time HTMLer,
working on my personal/business web site. Just joined the group in hopes of
learning something!
My site appeals to software developers, mostly Windows users, but lots of
Linux as well.
I've been reading lots of stuff and am presently very influenced by
Greenspun and Siegel. (A deadly combination, I suspect.) They both push for
lots of old-browser compatibility. Siegel uses the single-pixel thing,
which works pretty well. He uses nested tables for layout as well.
Greenspun seems to use nothing but Times Roman and pictures.
So my questions:
1. Are frames still as evil as some folks say, or is the truth that most
browsers out there handle them?
2. I'd like to use just a bit of special font stuff in my menu sidebars. Is
it safe to start using <STYLE>, and CSS, or am I pushing my luck? Should I
stick with <FONT FACE>?
3. How about paragraph formatting? STYLE, or <BR> and single-pixel plus tables?
Pointers to stuff to read will be fine if you don't want to clog the group
with newbie detail.
Thanks!
Ron Jeffries
