A couple of points to ponder:

"Society's elite" = *Maybe* their demographics support the assumption that
their target _ is _ using version 9.8 or whatever.

"NN4.X" = I an aware of approximately 900 computers within 30 minutes of
here that are used all day every day for surfing the Internet. NONE of them
have a browser version exceeding ~~~~~ 3.X ~~~~.

The reason? Simple. They are Schools. You can not toss 2 or three hundred
completely functional computers because NN & MISIE versions ~whatever~
require Pentium (or Power MAC) class processors and a boat load of RAM. You
just can't do it - economically.

Now, this . . and I'll put the label on it: "Core Group" (think about it:
computers in education) unquestionably has the right and the need to
successfully access generally public intended web content. And be able to
do it in an organized and logical manner.

I guess it's opinion time, but my opinion is that *I* won't code to exclude
them - I'll walk off the job first - if the content I am creating is going
to IMPEDE those needs. Call me an idiot if you'd like (remember, I'm not
delicate :-)).

Obviously, I WOULD be an idiot to not desire ~and support~ the furthering
of presentation technology on the web.

So it is almost (but not quite) a catch 22 situation. Who can guess why
it's "almost"?

Ratified Standards.

Yup. You guessed it.

I have mentioned this before, *I* feel it is why and how we justify getting
the money we (some of us ;-() get. KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE. Where are those
buttons on your WYSIWYG editors ??? (sorry, couldn't resist the dig).

In closing, Fuzzy's Rules for Life:

1) Just do it. DO the demographic research, and code to that. At the very
least your screwups will be documentable as reasonable mistakes.

2) In all my years on this list I have never even once seen a message with
"my validated non-transitional code broke a browser" in it. Ever. Even as
slow witted as I am, *I* have learned that using validated code makes
pretty good sense.

HTH,
Fuzzy
