Hi Megan!

In the bad old days before CSS [  ;^ )  ] a div was usually used for 
aligning blocks like.... making your whole table center on the page or 
right aligning a couple of paragraphs.

Now, in the good new days, it's used the same way. With CSS it's possible 
to do more and wondrous things with both the div and span tags. You can see 
some examples from the W3C HTML 4.0 spec
