Carol,
With all due respect, it looks to me ...
1) Create, maintain and update a complete web site for those folks with
Internet access.
2) The site itself has to be specifically designed so that it can be
burned onto a CD and distributed to those folks who do not have Internet
access.
3) In addition, many areas of the web site must be re created again as
(PDF?) forms which are able to be printed and faxed, and included on the CD.
4) The CD has to be compatible for Mac and Windows platforms, using
equipment of unknown age.
5) Does "all" browsers refer to the major browsers (latest version only or
going back how many versions) or real all browsers?
Hmmm. If this is a contract, you are getting screwed. The work involved
is more than full-time work. You effectively have to do at least twice the
work of maintaining/updating a web site. If they are paying you more than
an equivalent full-time pay, you are still getting the short end of the
stick. Without knowing details, I bet your client/employer would be more
cost-effective in supplying Internet connections for those areas without
them and have you just build/maintain a web site.
It also appears the client/employer is still using old methods to do
business while giving the appearance of moving into the Internet. By
creating/maintaining web forms, along with hard copy forms on a CD, there
is a dependency with legacy procedures which is hindering a move to an
all-electronic system. That may not be your concern, per se, however you
are doing twice the work (and then some) to keep two almost identical
methods going of doing business. I am willing to bet in time this will
turn into a major headache for all concerned. More importantly, if you are
building this for someone and then turning it over to their staff to
maintain it once it is operating, all bets are off. Unless the folks who
will maintain the operation have the same dedication and attention to
detail as you do, and you have written an explicit manual explaining every
step in the process, the project will fail within 30 days after you have
turned it over to them.
