Validation Issues....

I was wondering if anyone here could assist me with a validation
problem.

I have a page that validated the last time I checked it.  I'm in the
process of switching over to style sheets, and I decided to do an
initial validation to see if I had removed all the FONT shrapnel and
the like.  Well, my page doesn't validate, for a completely different
reason than I thought it would - my javascript code is borfing it
where it didn't before.

The page is http://www.vision2020.hamilton-went.on.ca/index.html and
the validation errors I am worried about specifically are the
following:

Line 16, column 284: 
  ... a food bank or shelter to help ease the burden.</I>",
                                                       ^
Error: end tag for element "I" which is not open

which occurs for every line in my array (they all end in the italics
tag. 

I tried switching to the HTML 4.01 specs, with no success.  

Is there anyone out there that could enlighten me as to why this is
happening and how I might fix it?
