Hi Pam,
>I am authoring my first "official" website and I want it to look =
professional - as it is for a non-profit organization. Specifically, =
the women I am designing the site for really likes the look of =
air-brushed graphics. Her thinking is for the logo and the navigation =
bar. I do not know where to look for such effects. Is there a =
particular graphics software program I should be looking at, or does =
FrontPage or Dreamweaver allow for such designing? Any help would be =
greatly appreciated.
Being as this is for a non-profit you may be able to get PhotoshopLE
as I did by buying a scanner that came with it at no extra cost. It
doesn't have all the features of regular PhotoShop but it has served
me well over many years. I also have Fireworks but I find it much
harder to use so prefer Photoshop and especially for photos.
Here is how I feather an image:
Open image
highlight area you want feathered
Choose "select/feather" and choose about 8 pixels (you can adjust
this later if it too wide or too narrow). You may not see a change
until the next step.
Copy/paste this image onto another background so feathering will show
up (light background for dark image, and visa-verse)
These instructions should work in any graphics program, but maybe
with different terminology.
I made a collage using this technique which you can view here:

enjoy.
