  I just answered a response thru personal email to Darrell. His response is 
right. There is no really 'formal" education required here. If you can 
design, and by design I mean visualise a page in your head, and take it there 
with your code, that is great. I came into this with nothing,  some graphic 
arts, I am a semi-retired trucker with MS in Biology.  I was asked to take 
over a site, how??? I said??? You'll learn, I was told. It is not even a year 
later, and I have gleaned more knowledge through trial and error, i am 
working on my third site, and god forbid, can hand code almost all my pages!  
I still waver between WYSIWYG editors, but so be it!  I can see what i want 
on my pages without the page there, and that is awesome!   Better yet, I can 
actually get it to do what I want, sometimes. Take some tim e, set up a few 
"free' sites,  you will be glad you did. And get some of those Sam's books!  
They are great!  Online courses can also be supportive, but experience and a 
good eye are a necessity!
