Disjointed Rollovers and 3.x browsers

I'm very interested in using disjointed rollovers, but I also need to 
make sure that they work with Navigator 3.x and higher. I want to 
create something similar to:

http://www.playingwithfire.com/home.html
and
http://www.apple.com/support/

With 4.x browsers, both pages behave similarly, but only the Apple 
support page seemed to work when using Navigator 3.x.

How do these two pages differ? Is something like this supported with 
Dreamweaver 3.0? It's critical that the second rollover also behave 
as a link (like in the above URL's).
