thx for the input. i run the validator, test on older browsers and try to
keep coding simple. i also check my pages with various components turned off
to ensure they still look fine. i don't like to 'code to the browsers' as it
creates just this kind of problem.
i think i chose the wrong wording in my initial post but basically i'm
asking if anyone has come up against this problem where a client could come
back in 5 years time and ask for a fix to their site which may not look as
intended due to a new standard that has since come out. (ie. layout, css
issues, who knows what is in store for us)
in addition to including a clause regarding limitations on future standards
compliance in the contract, including a clause noting the site has been
validated and tested on various current browsers is a great idea - thanks
michelle. i also include a 'summary of work' sheet outlining testing and
validation in addition to the site's major work elements, but i'll be adding
this into my contract as well.
