Vikki,

My personal choice would be #2 (but with the proper spelling of the "Beary
Special" web address). My understanding of sig lines is that they should be
short, consise, and to the point without a lot of heavily obvious
advertising. #1 seems to be more an ad than a sig, #3 also feels a lot like
an ad, but does contain some good info as well, and #4 is just way too long.
I think I recall reading somewhere that a sig line should be no more than
about 6 lines long. My personal view is that it should contain your name,
company name, contact email(s) and website address(es), but not be an
out-and-out advertisement. The content of the email (or post, depending)
should give the reader the information they wish to know, and if they're
interested in more information you have available, then the sig line points
them in the right direction.

Just my 2c.

Kehvan
(who rarely uses sig lines anyway :-) )

| Hi Paul,
|
| The first thing that you need to do you have gotten half right -
contribute
| to mailing lists, but don't forget to include your URL either as part of
| the content or in the Signature of your email :). It is considered
| acceptable netiquette to add up to a 6-line self-promotional signature at
| the end of every email you send to the list. Each list has its own
| guidelines, and it is a good idea to look into them first before posting,
| and try to contribute to the value of the list in the process. For the
| guidelines on this list check the Guild website at http://www.hwg.org/
|
| We wrote an article on the topic some time ago, and a quick check shows it
| still seems up-to-date, apart from a reference to the email program
| Pegasus, which has moved, and a quick Google search will find it.
|
| Here is the article:

| Cheers
