How many of you have trackers that show what search engines your traffic
comes from?
I have speant a lot of time and find it is not hard to get in the top 10 or
20 listings. However I now am beginning to think that it is a waste of time.
In most cases I find the majority of traffic comes from Yahoo and AOL. The
time to get listed is taking longer and longer and these companies that are
telling people they need to resubmit their sites every two weeks only add
to the problem. It seems to me that the more submissions there are the
longer the processing time. Looksmart and MSN are now charging to look at
your site. They don't even guarantee you get listed and they reserve the
right to remove your site is the page is down or you have a bad link. Whos
page has never been down or had a link to a site that went down. I think
they would do better to charge a reasonable listing fee and not charge if
they don't list your site.
I see very little traffic coming in from Looksmart, wouldn't even consider
paying them.
Do you even want to use a search engine that doesn't list a site without
payment? Seems like they would have less listings.
Which engines do you see most of your traffic coming from? Which engine do
you yourself use most often? Will you pay for someone to look at your site
and MAYBE list it?
