State of Web Advertising?

I'm curious about what fellow listmembers think is the status of 
advertising on the web. Many ad-supported websites are either going 
under or being forced to seek other sources of revenue, due to 
advertisers cutting their ad budgets to the bone.

Do you think web advertising is finished? Or is it merely going to 
take other forms? Do you think the expectations of it are/were too
