Hi Brian,
I don't think the lack of response you mention is to do with your design. I
think your site could do with some real solid content before you'll attract
many visitors. A community site depends on having something of interest to
bring visitors not once, but again and again. The idea is good, and maybe
you should consider getting some local businesses involved. What about a
restaurant guide, for example? Real Estate Agents? Specialist shopping?
Doctors, Dentists, Lawyers - what do people want to know about the local
area?
If you work out clearly who you are targetting with this site, you'll know
better what to offer them.
Perhaps you might consider posting a request to the business listing for
further suggestions on marketing your site?
