Hi, I've been working on a page for an online DJ agency and there are a
number of issues I'm interested in getting your opinions on.

First of all, the site relies on Flash for its introduction and navigation,
it also is designed around a couple of frames. I switched to a frameset in
order to have menus and headers/footers that remained on screen. I know
some designers are bitterly opposed to frames but it seems like a neat
solution to me. There is a non-frames non-Flash 'universal' version in the
pipeline but I want to get the main site sorted out first.

Secondly I think it looks sweet at 800x600 and starts to look a bit loose
around the edges at higher resolutions. Any suggestions for keeping the
layout tight at larger window sizes? (Aside: Am I alone in using 800x600
size browser windows on a higher resolution desktop because it bugs me when
people use full screen browser windows?)

I'm currently dealing with any additions to the DJ portfolio by hand (I'm
using a formmail script). This is not a problem so long as I'm not adding
more than one or two a week. I'm not sure how easy it would be to fix up
some way of automatically adding the new DJs. Any suggestions here? I am
attempting to learn Perl but at the rate I'm going it'll be a long time
before I'll be rolling my own CGI!

Finally I'd welcome any general suggestions although please be gentle as I
don't have the time to re-work the site from scratch! Oh yeah, I'll run it
through the validator sometime (this weekend maybe) and spend who knows how
long trying to get it to valid HTML! (Something that I think a lot of sites
blatantly ignore!)

Oh yeah, you might want to know the URL, it's:

http://www.djdatabase.co.uk

Thanks for your time and any comments/suggestions,

Nick Doylend

PS I've been fiddling with web pages for about 5 years so I hope I'm not too
'old-fashioned' and I hope I've not picked up any really bad habits. I only
learn HTML using the magpie approach, grabbing techniques from other sites,
so if any can show me some easily implemented 'shiny things' that I've not
considered I'd be grateful!
