Dear Lindsay
Your site has a very professional look. These are some of the problems I
had with it.
1. I was curious about one of the responses mentioning a FAQ page and I
couldn't find it - thought you must have removed it. Eventually did find
it.
I have a 15" monitor and have 800 resolution which I believe is about the
most common screen to have. I had been through your whole site without
noticing the little menu's at the bottom as I need the scroll bars to get
there. The page had a sort of finished look as it was so I didn't scroll
down.
I have scroll bars both horizontally and vertically. They hardly scroll at
all so I don't think they are necessary. As you are so close to fitting
into an 800 screen you may as well shrink it a little.
There is a lot of space in the top half of your design -with your company
name, and would better to have less there and for 800 resolutions to see
your bottom menu. Alternatively, you can put those links at the top where
the addresses of the about page are.
2. On the "about" page the address is hard to read and the email address
impossible to read. I only noticed later they were links.
3. The biggest negative though, for me, would be the writing. Its in that
kind of business speak that is hard to get your head around. Kind of like
those joke programmes that you can generate random business letters or
mission statements. A whole page of really clever sounding words that don't
really mean anything.
That combined with the sort of writing of those companies that brag about
strange things i.e.: "we think of our clients as family". Sort of
irritates.
Then it woffles some more and after watching pretty colours and designs
moving around I was wondering what your company does. That scary feeling of
reading something but there are no actual facts to wrap your brain around.
The about link should say some facts about you. You say your clients are
your priority etc but except for the one word - convention, which could be
missed, there is nothing about your company. No facts. I don't know who
your clients are at that point.
Most people are scan readers and this is even more so on the internet as it
is harder to read large bodies of text on a monitor.
A scan reader scans over those sort of "computer generated motivational
lingo", padded woffle, excess bragging and just takes the facts out. No
facts equals a sort of floating feeling. "We care, we are with you every
step of the way" doesn't really mean anything.
It is easier to read writing that is written as though you are speaking to
someone. Or to keep some sort of point form of facts. You have nice small
bodies of text so it would be ideal to keep to just the parts that a scan
reader would pick up.
Sorry about my lack of ability to say what I mean as clearly as I should.
3. I got a clearer picture of your company from the slide show. I though a
better idea would be to have a new window open with html and the
photographs, with captions (gives you a chance to add in more facts as
captions have an almost 90% read rate both in books and internet - compared
to about 10% for the large body of text.)
If all your conventions have fire blowers and lots of clowns and
contortionists then that the pictures would be a good indication of what you
do. If you do more classical conventions, then I would add more photos of
those as someone wanting assistance but not to the degree the slides
indicate - might be a bit put off.
Lovely colours and design though. Enjoyed the flash but left feeling empty.
love
Moira
