Subject: The ruckus raised by Quinn (was RE: Critique - ImOnline2.com!)

(By the way, I live in a house made of brick, not lincoln logs, because at
some point the builder I hired grew up and graduated from the lincoln logs,
to real wood, to bricks and mortar...and my family and I are grateful he
took the time to do so.)

What? You can't use this analogy. That would be like saying you're glad a
designer "grew up" from using Windows paint (or Mac equivalent)and used
Fireworks. Of course you would go to something better as a business person,
but who are we to tell this person that PSP is not the way to go? Isn't it a
personal preference? I use both PSP and Photoshop. I use PSP when I'm doing
"simple" graphics and Photoshop when I need to do something that PSP can't.
I particularly like how easy it is to save GIF's in PSP as compared to
Photoshop, but Photoshop has a better compression tool for JPEG's and GIF's.
I'm just comfortable with both.

Who said that this person wants to get hired for a job anyway? Maybe she is
in business for herself? If that's the case then why should we care what
tools she uses, as long as she and the site owner are happy with it? And if
she works, or wants to work, for someone else, then that would be reason
enough to learn the tools of the trade. If I felt that PSP was enough for my
work, I wouldn't ever consider using Photoshop. If I need to stop doing my
own business and get hired somewhere else, then I'll learn Photoshop better
than I know it today. It would stand to reason that anyone can do that if
they so choose. I would hazard a guess and say that JASC's site's graphics
were developed by PSP and they look just fine.

My 2 cents,

Phil
