This is to both Starr and her sister and everyone-

First I want to say how great it is to see young web
designers willing to make a start now, willing to be
counted among the professionals, and truly deserving to be
there. I am a 17 year old student/web designer, the number
of people on the lists who are under 18 is larger than you
might imagine. The amazing thing is that for the majority
of things age IS NOT relevant, the teens can easily hold
their own in most discussions and certainly add to the
lists.

Perhaps it is time to move on to constructive discussion
again?

I certainly don't support Killian or anyone else's harsh
or harassing comments. I am also not in support of
comments widly attacking someone who makes harsh comments.
Namecalling and threats on the lists DO NO good except
enflame people. Listguides are there to arbitrate these
things, and are so helpful. I will say right now that I
did not read Killian's letter. I am rather glad. I often
do not read all of the mail on the lists, whether because
I have lost interest in a thread or I don't have time or I
have had enough of someone's comments. Obviously, I won't
say that not reading Killian's mail was an option for you,
I too read every reply to requests I make.

The amount of mail on the -critiques list has been
incredible. Surely this shows what a minority people like
Killian are, and the caring and general helpfulness of
people here. People have been banned before, they will be
banned in the future. Whether online or in the real world,
dealing with problematic people is a vital skill. Online,
people seem to be more outspoken, but it is tiny majority
who feel flaming and verbal violence is right. Just today
Slashdot held a poll on people's feelings about flames.
nearly 90% felt that they are not constructive or even
worse.

When my brother starts pestering me, starts insulting me
for whatever reason, it always seems easiest to lash right
back at him, try to get him harder. I realize that it
would be hard to equal Killian's comments, which is why
the real solution is even more important. IGNORE it. Then
report it to the proper authorities. (my parents, or the
listguides.)

I'll leave with that thought, and that I generally like
your site, keep the brown as a common thread. I'm sure
you've gotten lots of critiques, and I won't add one to
this email. Maybe I'll send one later, let me know if you
need more feedback now. Or maybe you can leave this email
fiasco behind, take the ideas you have now and spend your
time improving the site. Then, please do let us know you
want another critique. Like getting through life, web
design is a gradual thing.
