BreastCare Magazine (please critique)

Greetings all,

Have a brand new site to share... and I would certainly appreciate any 
and all expert opinions.  The site is at 
http://www.breastcaremagazine.com, and is in the VERY beginning stages 
of developement.

My main concern: LOAD TIME!

My client is adamant about leaving the huge and heavy graphic on the 
opening page... the magazine is very "artsy", with original work by a 
well know artist throughout the pages.  It's important to have the 
website reflect the look and feel of it, but I'm afraid I've compromised 
the load time in the process.

Anyway, as usual, I need my favorite group once again.  Thanks!
