Not all personal sites are alike. For instance, my whole site is broken
down into parts, those parts representing my interests.
Each individual site corresponding to my interests are sites in their own
right and are even advertised separately. Only one page is really a
PERSONAL site in the sense that I talk about my family, etc. The other
sections of my site(devoted to such topics as figure skating, Nickelodeon,
even a beginners guide to getting a web page up) are meant to be
informational and not a diatribe about my personal likes and dislikes.

Someone(I forget who and I am sorry that I forget) made an excellent point-
when someone DOES put up a personal site for critique, let folks know the
intention(is it informational about a personal interst, a general "here is
me and my likes" site, etc). That way, people can decide if they want to
take the time to critique. I did not do this when I put up a site for
critique a few days ago and I should have. I think this is a very good
idea. Say something like, "This is a personal site intended to give hints
on playing Foo. Please let me know where I can improve."

This is a nice sentiment, but I basically took it as the former here. Well,
I would not say a personal site is unwelcome. I would say though that they
are not going to be critiqued very often, which is unfortunate.
One reason mentioned was in the general sense of not wanting to hurt
feelings by critiquing something "personal." Well, I believe that if you
submit a site here to critique, no matter WHAT type of site it is, that you
should be prepared to take anything thrown your way. No one here has said
that a topic of any site was horrid. We HAVE had comments about better
presentation of material and the like, which is what we need to hear.
