I just wanted to add that the maximize window script on that
first page really messes up my Opera window (which was already
maximized).
It seems to size the window to what it thinks the maximum size
should be (rather than actually triggering the maximize
command) and then shifts it slightly right and down, so I lose
about a quarter inch of viewing space on two sides.
It wasn't till I saw the maximizing script in the source code
that I realized why my close window button wasn't in its
usual place - the window wasn't actually maximized, it was just
sized to be maximum.
The more I look at this site, the more I think the main problems
are that you're trying to impose your view of how the web site
should be read on the viewer - fixing the window size, the
column widths for text, the speed at which they see things
appear (or not!) on the splash page.
An approach of separating content from presentation, and
then overlaying a presentation style as a last design step would
work wonders. You have a great feel for artistic presentation,
and there's so much on these pages that could be done with
some simple HTML and CSS, without any of the heavy-loading
Dreamweaver "add-ons". The site would be tremendously
effective with no Flash, no javascript and no animated GIFs
to distract from its message.
I'm still lost as to where I'm supposed to be seeing this
Timelines thing...
