Interesting, the different comments, so, here's mine to toss in the mix:
The background on my monitor has a green cast to it.
The Buckeye logo is too big and the page does fall off the right on my
800x600 too.
I just switched recently to a cable modem, wow, your page took a long time
to load so I ran it through Bobby and it estimates almost 28 seconds on a
28,800 modem. Your audience probably has much better connections, but it
might be something to think about as you plan the new look.
I just peeked at the source -- MM on the image swaps? Is that Dreamweaver?
You might want to try PPK's script from
http://www.xs4all.nl/~ppk/js/index.html then scroll down to miscellaneous
scripts --> mouseover. His and Larry Coates' scripts are really fast, but
I've lost the link to Dreamwolves (?) -- he's also on the HWG lists, so you
may be able to find the link in the archives. Those scripts are very *light.*
IMO, the mouseover links in the middle are way too big and detract from the
purpose of the site. I can imagine this should be more on the order of a
television guide so the movie poster is good, but the MO links being front
and center don't tell me what I want to watch /now/. Maybe it's just me,
but that's why I use these things -- it's almost 10 p.m., what's on? If the
title sounds interesting, then I'll want to read the review, maybe.
Now the proposed navigation scheme inside, like here:
http://www.units.ohio-state.edu/moviechannel_new/schedule/index.html --
yes, I like that even if it also falls off the right side. It's large
enough to help me find what I need, leaves space for the schedule to come,
has a nice gradient background and seems more integrated than the one on
the main page. Well, on my monitor, the green buckeye leaf does come
awfully close to overpowering the letters on the logo.
And, congratulations on getting the chance to do this! It's already better!
8-)
Considering the awkwardness of the original site, I think you're definitely
moving in the right direction with this.
Good luck!
