A few details...
Buffalowaterfront.com will be upgrading there servers... SB

The image quality of the header is poor (bwf_logoa.jpg). With 26K invested 
it should look better.
You've invested about 30K in navigation images that have little visual 
impact and merely add to the load time.

On to bigger things...
This type of layout for a community/portal site is common. It comes from is 
the traditional print thought process... where a front page is filled with 
a little bit of a lot of different content to give people interesting 
things to read without turning the page or even unfolding the newspaper. A 
newspaper format is appropriate for print but not screen.

At the moment there are about 40 links, more than 300 words of text 
content, and 3 1/2 pages of scrolling (800x600 still the dominant res) to 
get to the bottom. Home page content should be what all visitors need/want 
to see every time they arrive and not a ransom note like collection of 
extraneous content.

It would be interesting to see someone create an effective screen based 
format for community/portal sites.
