Re: Request for group-critique and a question

Hi,
I looked at your site and it's a very good site, solid, easy to navigate, fast
loading, clear, etc... so, I'm not sure where you can improve as is.  so, I'm
digging here, and it might sound nitpicky (or not...?).  okay, one thing I see
right now is that on some pages where there are mainly text, so maybe you can
break up the text.  ways you might do that is with table bgcolor, relevant and
untacky graphics.  Also, you can probably add some more color to the site.
what else...??   
So my question is, what are your plans and ideas for the overhaul?  Maybe if
you give us that, we can help with the ideas?  Do you want to stay with the
simple and easily maintainable look (you have a huge site!
ilikefigureskating^_^!)?  Or do something totally different?  And the
background with stars running down the sides, do you want to keep that?  It's
really nice i think, but it is overused these days, so you might take that
into consideration.  And once you take that out, maybe you can try to make it
so that the page doesn't scroll for so long.  People don't like to scroll I
think, don't have the attention span.  You can probably fix that by making
graphics more compact.  For instance, your titles and the email/guestbook
graphics.  Also, your site is slightly linear, so you might want to arrange
some things next to each other.  Many sites I see these days try to avoid
scrolling unless the text is long (which means content of course, which your
site has lots of, which means, break up the text)
oh, and the colors.  how about something richer and softer?  Make it less
stark, although I know it is skating and that means ice and all that.  And i
don't know about you, but the look that seems hot these days seems to be the
subdued, basic colored, flat look (or maybe its just like that with the sites
I visit).

okay, I think thats it!  I hope some of that helped (cuz I know many of them
are probably ramblings)!


liz (whose expertise in this area is that she surfs the net WAAAAY too much,
and she does tend towards aestheticism, at least thats what she is interested
in, especially when she sees a pretty site, she likes to look at it even if
there is no content. ^_^ btw skatefan, I "know" you from the michelle kwan ML
