Well, though it's not as simple as PS4 was, you can modify the text and play
with the filters. You just have to do a little more work.

1. Unlike PS4, the "Preserve Transparency" is always set on Text and cannot
be changed. Therefore, you cannot apply filters to the layer that has the
text on it - grrrrrrr!!!
The way around it is to select the color range, then apply a new layer -
Then apply the filter (you might have to add a color to that layer before
applying the filters so just use the fill option).

2. To modify a font after you apply a filter, use the Action function -
	a. Before you create your font, begin recording a new action
	b. Continue to record the action as you go about setting up the new layer
and applying the filters (see above).
	c. Once you've completed the image, stop the recording
	d. Now, in the actions menu, double click the "Make Text Layer" - this
will bring up the font selection and allow you to modify the font on your
image.
	e. Run the Action under this new setting and it'll apply the filter to the
new font selection.

Problem: You can easily end up with multiple layers of fonts and applied
filters if you don't manage your layers window properly.

I haven't found another way to apply the filters and modify the text WITHOUT
applying another layer or using Actions. If there is another suggestion,
I'd like to hear it as well.

I thought there was a way of applying filters and effects on photoshop 5 on
the text layer without having to make it into a regular layer; when it was
advertised, it said you could play with the text, and then change the font
again and what not without having to redo it all. Guess I misread it =(
