Ok! No problem. Here it goes:

1 - Create a new image with a size enough to accommodate the gif you want to
use and making sure that you are creating it with 24bit colors.

2 - Open the image you want to use, select it and do a CTRL+C.

3 - You can now close the image if you want. It will not be needed again.

3 - On the new image see if you have the layers toolbar displayed. If not,
go to View|Toolbars and check "Layer palette".

4 - On the layer Palette you'll see on the bottom left an icon of two pages.
Click it and a window with the new layer properties will be displayed.

5 - Accept the defaults by clicking OK and do a CTRL+E afterwards.

6 - Deselect the image.

6 - Now, on the Layer Palette, the right side frame has two slide controls
on it. One for each layer. The layer which has the image it's "Layer 1".
Drag the slide of "Layer 1" and you'll see your image disappearing.

7 - Make it transparent the way you want it.

8 - Right click on an empty space on the Payer Palette and from the pop menu
select Merge|Merge All (flatten).

9 - Make it 256 colors and save the bugger.

10 - It's done! :)
