Very true for both of these responses. But again, you have, in essence,
moved from a full bleed animated background to a page with some smaller
animated graphics and text that directly involves the background.

Its just staying away from those hideous looking pages...and I think we've
all seen them (not that I haven't had a 'what the hell is this' after
finishing a long night)

When one carefully thinks out the ramifications of every object on their
page with relation to the design (and never forget the site) concept, as
many learn in school, then you can really treat the page from a "consumer's"
or surfer's point of view, rather than technology posturing. After all, we
have these pages in existance 90% of the time for consumption by the public,
right?

just a quick brainstorm......why not use layers, and have the animated
gif in one layer, and the text to be displayed in another layer on the
HTML page? That way it would simulate an animated background. You can
use CSS to tile it....i think.

Well, I came up with one idea of a "background image" that wasn't really a
background, just looks like it is. That way the whole image may be sliced
into
smaller pieces and only animate pieces that need to be.
The other idea I had dealt with the animated background and reading the
type.
It would involve good layout so the animated background doesn't interfere
with
the type.
