gif, if you can paste it as a transparent selection.  Right

    Actually the fewer number of colors in the JPEG file the
smaller the size is. Often I'll convert my image to an
adaptive 256 color palette and save it as a JPEG (it
automatically bumps it back to 24bpp color - but I'll only
be working with 256 of them). However in this case the extra
colors are a result of the JPEG compression and can't be
removed (if you remove them and save it as a JPEG again
they'll reappear and the image will look even worse). In
this case I'd suggest making sure all the GIFs have the same
color palette (color table) and saving the image as a GIF -
or find a program that lets you preview the JPEG compression
and file size as you play with the controls (Corel
PhotoPaint 8 does).
