to use front page or not to use front page...

Problems viewing JavaScript? Actually it is a little of several things.
Microsoft does implement it's own flavor of JavaScript called Jscript, which
is probably the reason your Netscape browsers don't always interpret the
scripts correctly if they have been created automatically in FrontPage. But,
I.E. 3.0 doesn't really support JavaScript either, so that is what is
causing the script to mess up there. I have found less imcompatibility
issues if you use straight JavaScript and the 4.0 versions of either
browser.

As far as whether FP97/98 is buggy...isn't most software these days...

As to which tools for a beginner to use, I have used Front Page, I don't
like it, it is too complex in areas that shouldn't be, and too dumbed down
where I really need power. But, just like browser preference, it is a matter
of taste. I personally think it would benefit anyone to learn how to code
pages using a text editor, a good book on HTML, and their browsers for
testing. That way, when they finally choose an authoring environment, they
will know what it is they need and want.

Considering the plethora of tools out there, including the ability to
created basic pages in most word processors and desktop publishing programs,
it really does boil down to what you are used to and what you want to do. I
started making pages with Photo-Paint and Notepad, now I use Photoshop and
HotDog Pro, and about four or five other tools depending on the need. I
would suggest reading as much as possible about the tools you want to use,
ask people, and visit the company sites. Then play with the demos until you
find the one you like that fits your budget.

my two cents,
Michael Parnell
