Why not just email the site you got it from and ask?

I do that all the time, it's quite a nice feeling how gracious people are
about their sources, and are always so grateful to be acknowledged when it's
their own work. I've never had anyone ask me for money, even when it was a
business selling graphics. One place was very protective of a particular
image and did the work to modify it themselves, way better than I could have
done, and then said thanks (!!) for letting them have some control over it.
Amazing.

I recently purged my libraries of a lot of beautiful graphics I knew I
couldn't trace. It really hurt - learned my lesson. It's worth the extra
minute to note the url in the file info when you save it.

HTH

:How do you find the origin of a graphic? There are so many graphics out
:there, that if you run across one, how do you know it's not copyrighted (in
:the sense that someone is collecting royalties off of it, I know once
:something is created it is covered by US copyright at least in the US,
:automatically). I've received great background images I'd like to use, but
:one is never really sure where they came from and whether they're safe to
:use. Is there some sort of public repository of known
:copyrighted/chargeable graphics out there we could check against?
